Fans Are Freaking Out About Miley Cyrus' "Slide Away" Music Video and All the Liam Hemsworth Easter Eggs

After a day of teasing her new music video for “Slide Away,” Miley Cyrus gave her fans what they’ve been itching for since she first came out with the song right after her breakup with Liam Hemsworth. Now that everyone’s had a few minutes to watch the video, people are freaking out about all the Easter eggs and references to their relationship.

For starters, the lyrics are totally about Liam. I mean, “Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights” and “So won’t you slide away. Back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights” are clear references to his Australian roots and her Los Angeles home.

But aside from the lyrics, the video definitely has major sad breakup vibes. First off, the majority of it is Miley looking pretty lonely in the aftermath of a crazy party. The beginning of the video shows alcohol bottles and wine glasses floating in a pool. Those plus the party atmosphere could be a reference to Liam’s alleged struggle with drugs and alcohol.

Later in the video, the camera pans to a couple making out before showing Miley’s reaction, which was less than chipper. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to think that that scene is about how she felt right after their breakup. You know that feeling when you’re sad and you see something that reminds you of why you’re sad and it just makes you even more sad? That’s probably what that was about.

Between flashes of Miley at the party and some B-roll footage, there are shots where she’s floating in a pool, looking extremely content and at peace. This could be a hint at her current state of mind and relationship with Kaitlynn Carter.

Plus, at the bottom of the pool, there’s a 10 of hearts playing card, which 100 percent represents her 10-year-relationship with Liam coming to an end. One fan commented on the video and wrote, “That 10 of hearts card under water at 1:23 means so deep! 10 years of love all drowned. This video is such a masterpiece!”

Also, her fans think the whole video, which includes a giant teddy bear, is basically a dark follow up to her “We Can’t Stop” party-to-end-all-parties video.

Basically, there are a lot of layers to this video and it’s really effing sad.

Okay, I’m gonna go make an hour-long playlist of “Slide Away” just playing on repeat to help process all these emotions.
