Take That’s Howard Donald took to Twitter recently to vent his frustration after his four-year-old son was refused a haircut because he wasn’t wearing a mask. Under the current rules, children under 11 years of age don’t have to wear one.

Emily Andrea has now had her say on the matter, insisting that as a doctor and a mother of young children, she agrees with Howard's stance.

Writing in her latest column in OK! magazine, Peter Andre’s wife Emily – who has Amelia, six, and Theo, three – said: "I wouldn’t be too impressed if I took Theo to the hairdresser and was told he had to wear a mask, so I don’t blame Howard for being annoyed.

"It’s hard enough to get young children to keep a hat on, let alone a mask!

"I guess each business owner will make their own rules for their establishment based on the guidance given by the government, and, as customers, we have to respect that."

She added: "If you don’t like it you’ll just have to find somewhere else to go."

Emily recently admitted she found wearing a protective mask made it hard to parent.

Opening up about the family's recently holiday to Cyprus, she said in her OK! column: "The flight to Cyprus was the first time I’d been on a plane in nine months and it felt very weird wearing a mask. It sounds ridiculous, but I actually find it quite hard to parent with a mask on.

“Theo especially can’t quite pick up on what I’m saying and he doesn’t really get why I’m wearing one, whereas if my mask slips off my nose, Millie says, 'Mummy pull your mask up!' straight away.

“Luckily the kids didn’t have to wear one and they were really good on the flight.”

Thankfully, the family still managed to enjoy their getaway and after a manic few months working for the NHS, Emily said husband Peter did all he could to try to get her to relax and enjoy herself.

She said: “Pete has been trying hard to let me relax as I’ve had a busy few months at work! We’ve been to the beach and I’ve also been trying to teach Theo how to swim. My mission is to have him swimming by the end of the week but we haven’t made much headway yet!”

She added: “It’s very quiet here compared to when we usually come.

“The hotels are half full and it’s really sad to see the tourism industry suffering. Millie and Theo didn’t have to take coronavirus tests before we came here, but myself and Pete did a few days before so we were allowed to travel.

“We had to pay £160 each for the tests and I think that would put so many people off travelling to a place like Cyprus. It’s a shame that it’s so difficult to go abroad and businesses are suffering as a result.”
