Arlene Phillips admits she would love to be a Dancing On Ice judge

ITV has denied rumours Dame Arlene Phillips is set to replace John Barrowman on Dancing On Ice – but now the former Strictly Come Dancing judge has revealed she'd love to take the actor's place.

In a brand new interview – which comes ahead of her I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! stint – the 78 year old has expressed her interest in taking up the role.

Arlene told OK!: "I love Dancing On Ice and I would love to do that."

She then addressed where the reports of her replacing John could have come from, adding: "The producers of the show used to work on Strictly, so we chat all the time and have chatted for years. That might be where that story came from.

"I love things where people have to do something where it’s a real challenge. I admire people who do that and will get their skates on, because it’s not easy. It’s much nicer to be in the judging seat than on the ice!"

While it was reported that the dancing professional would be taking John's place on the panel, a spokesperson for ITV said it wasn't true.

They also said there is "no new judge” who will be joining Ashley Banjo, Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill on its judging panel.

It comes after a source told The Sun: "The fact that Arlene is a mature woman with decades of experience in the dance world is seen as a huge asset for Dancing on Ice.

"In contrast to what people see as her harsh treatment by Strictly, ITV bosses see her seniority as a brilliant way to create a diverse panel of experts on the show.

“It means the DOI judges are now made of two men and two women spanning an extensive age range.”

Arlene left Strictly in 2019 as a judge after first joining in 2004, but it is rumoured she could be returning for a one-off episode.

She told us: "That’s another rumour running around! I don’t know where they’re coming from.

"I don’t think for a minute they would ask me, so I wouldn’t even think about it!"

Arlene added: "It’s not even on my radar.

"I only think about things that are possible, not something that isn’t going to happen."
