Lori Loughlin's Life in Limbo — Actress Is Not Working as She 'Waits Around for the Next Court Date': Source

Lori Loughlin‘s life is looking a lot different these days.

In the wake of the nationwide college admissions scandal, the actress “isn’t working, and her whole life focus has changed drastically,” a source tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

“It consists of waiting around for the next court date and planning her legal defense,” the source says of Loughlin, who was dropped by Hallmark Channel after the scandal broke in March.

In addition to being fired by Hallmark Channel, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Loughlin would not be returning to her role in Netflix’s Fuller House for the fifth and final season — which is set to premiere this fall. Sources told THR that production wouldn’t be impacted by Loughlin’s legal issues, as there were no current plans for her to return.

On March 12, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts announced that it had charged 50 people, including Loughlin and her husband J. Mossimo Giannulli, in the scandal. Along with coaches, admissions counselors and fellow parents, they were accused of alleged crimes such as falsifying SAT scores and lying about the athletic skills of their children.

Prosecutors alleged that Loughlin and Giannulli paid $500,000 to admissions consultant William “Rick” Singer and his nonprofit organization, Key Worldwide Foundation (“KWF”), which prosecutors said was actually a front for accepting bribes, to have their daughters Olivia Jade, 19, and Isabella Rose, 20, designated as recruits to the USC crew team — despite the fact that they did not participate in crew. Neither Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose are listed on the USC women’s rowing roster.

Loughlin, 54, and Giannulli, 55, face charges of mail fraud and money laundering conspiracy. If convicted, they face up to 20 years in prison on each charge.

In April, the couple pleaded not guilty. They had previously turned down a plea deal because it included jail time.

According to the source, the Fuller House star stands by her and her husband’s decision.

“[Lori] still believes she did the right thing by rejecting a guilty plea,” says the source, who adds, “She is a fighter.”

Reps for Loughlin and Giannulli have not returned PEOPLE’s requests for comment. A trial date has not yet been set.

Earlier in May, an insider previously told PEOPLE that Loughlin and Giannulli “are both mounting a vigorous defense against the charges.”

“Lori in particular has become extremely well-versed in the case,” the insider said. “She’s an active participant in her own defense, feels like she’s got a valid defense, and that when all the evidence comes out, she won’t be found guilty.”

Netflix bumps up subscription prices to 'reflect investments' they've made

Netflix has been killing it lately with a string of new series that have been keeping us glued to our sofas weekend in and weekend out – and now they’re bumping the price up to make sure they can keep doing it.

After getting us fully hooked on shows including Lucifer, After Life, Sabrina, What/If and The Society over the last few weeks alone, the service is upping the cost of its subscription packages to ‘reflect their investment’.

Speaking about the decision, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed: ‘We change our prices from time to time to reflect the significant investments we’ve made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product.

While the basic package (one screen, standard definition) will remain at £5.99, all other variants of what the site has to offer will be getting a significant boost.

The two-screen plan will go up by £1 to £8.99 a month, while the four-screen package will be bumped up even higher to £11.99 a month.

Current Netflix customers will see the price change go into effect on their next payment.

Remaining the dominant company in streaming services, the show has more than 50 planned productions to be added to their roster over the next year in original content.

This is not including any acquired material they didn’t directly commission.

To date, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu (in the US) remain their biggest obstacles.

But according to business site Comparitech, Netflix has currently got 118million subscribers worldwide – with their second-in-line Amazon reaching at most 90million.

Netflix also added in just one quarter, half as many new subscribers as Hulu has total subscribers

Basically, they’re smashing it – so we might have to cough up a little more change for now.

What Happened to Alison & Emily After the 'Pretty Little Liars' Finale?

Pretty Little Liars produced some of the most ship-worthy couples on television. Yes, all were riddled with drama, and some even skated into WTF territory; remember how Ezra started dating Aria when she was underage, or how Toby (inadvertently) slept with Alex Drake instead of Spencer?

But still, we continue to ship — especially when it comes to the couple that took the longest to get together: Emison. After what appeared to be a happily ever after in the series finale for Alison and Emily, we’ve since learned that things have changed for the OTP. Here’s what you should know.

How did Emily and Alison get together?

Ready for a trip down memory lane? Emily and Alison’s romance began somewhat strangely. Alison “used” Emily’s crush on her back before she disappeared to manipulate her friend. Yikes — that’s not great. But Emily, ever the most positive and earnest of the group, continued to hold out hope for Alison long after the rest of the Liars did.

When Alison returns, she and Emily hook up, but it doesn’t progress further than that until Season 7. Emily and Alison become closer after the latter learns she is pregnant with the former’s offspring. They exchange “I love yous” and become a couple, and then get engaged in the series finale.

Here’s what has happened since Pretty Little Liars ended

In the PLL series finale, we see Emily and Alison happy with their twin girls, Grace and Lily. A.D. is gone, and they have a happy life and jobs at Rosewood High together. What could go wrong?

Apparently, a lot. In the Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists pilot, we see that a couple of years down the line, Alison has moved to Beacon Heights to work at the university. Emily and the girls are back in Rosewood. And a few episodes later, we see Alison signing divorce papers and removing her ring.

Could Alison and Emily get back together?

Happiest of birthdays boo ♥️

If what you’ve read so far has broken your heart, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that, according to creator I. Marlene King, they could be together in the end. “I don’t think it’s the end of the story, and I think it’s possible that Emison is going to be endgame, but I think it’s only fair to Alison that she gets to go on a journey in this world and where she ends up,” she told E! News.

As for the downside, it looks like she’ll probably be getting a new love interest before that happens. “It was a necessary thing to do, and I know it’s heartbreaking for some fans,” said King. “But I hope they open up their minds and their hearts to go on this ride with Alison, and know that they may live happily ever after in the end, or she may find somebody fans love even more than Emily.”

Will Shay Mitchell appear on Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists?

As King said, Mitchell is not on The Perfectionists, and it doesn’t appear as though there are any immediate plans to get her on it. However, never say never. The actress has been busy, but she’s always been supportive of the spinoff series. Hopefully, they’ll be able to find a time for Emily to pop back into Alison’s life, if only for an episode.

Love Island fans outraged over ‘hypocrites’ calling new cast ‘ugly’ and ‘boring’

Last Monday saw the release of the brand new line-up for Season Five of Love Island.

But as soon as the information went online, the cast members were bombarded with a slew of insults from the public.

Fuming fans of the hit ITV show took to social media to slam these hateful comments, labelling them “hypocritical”.

Twitter users pointed out that just weeks ago, viewers had expressed concerns over the mental health of potential contestants.

After the deaths of two former Islanders in recent years, the show was hit by criticism over the lack of aftercare support it put on offer.

Season One Love Island star Sophie Gradon, 32, committed suicide in 2018.

Earlier this year, Mike Thalassitis, 26, was found dead in the woods near his Essex home, having appeared on the show in 2017.

ITV released a statement following his death, confirming that they would implement a stronger system of support for contestants in the future.

But just a few weeks ago, the ethics behind reality television were drawn into question again when a guest on The Jeremy Kyle Show was found dead just a few days after filming had wrapped.

Furious social media users argued that, in light of the tragic incidents that had so recently occurred, viewers should make an effort to treat Love Island contestants with more kindness.

One said: “People shouting from the rooftops about mental health awareness, yet so many b****y comments flying about my timeline about the new Love Island line-up. Hypocrites.”

A second wrote: “Preaching about cancelling Love Island because of mental health one minute, to calling the new islanders boring, fat and ugly the next?”

While a third asked: “Are people actually ripping into Love Island contestants’ appearances? Am I even surprised – hypocrites.”

And a fourth chipped in: “So all the people who talk about how dangerous Love Island is for mental health are the same people calling the next lot ‘ugly’?”

Hopefully, fans of the popular dating series will take mental health awareness into account the next time they take to their keyboards.

Robert De Niro Writes Strongly Worded Letter to Robert Mueller in New York Times

After a half dozen episodes of playing the man on “Saturday Night Live,” Robert De Niro is doing his best to offer professional advice to Robert Mueller. In a New York Times op-ed response to Mueller’s Wednesday morning press conference, the actor pleaded for the Justice Department’s outgoing special counsel to be more active in the aftermath of his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Displaying a surprising amount of deference to a man he’s spent the past few months trying to turn into a tool for comedy on broadcast television, De Niro wrote, “As I prepared for my role on the show, I got to know you a lot better. I read about your lifetime devotion to public service and your respect for the rule of law. I watched how you presided over the special counsel’s office apparently without leaks. And you never wavered, even in the face of regular vicious attacks from the president and his surrogates.”

Still, after Mueller’s impromptu announcement this morning — in which he stated that he would be closing the special counsel’s office and would not be appearing before any further congressional hearings on matters related to last month’s report on his findings — De Niro wants more.

“In your news conference, you said that your investigation’s work ‘speaks for itself.’ It doesn’t. It may speak for itself to lawyers and lawmakers who have the patience and obligation to read through the more than 400 pages of carefully chosen words and nuanced conclusions (with all due respect, as good a read as it is, you’re no Stephen King),” De Niro wrote.

Whether or not De Niro had some version of this chambered and ready to go before this morning’s surprise announcement is unclear. But this is far from the first time De Niro has been vocal about matters related to the current White House occupant. “Say what you will about the president — and I have — when it comes to that lying, exaggerating, bullying thing, no one can touch him,” De Niro wrote on Wednesday, referring to an ongoing string of public statements he’s made during the Trump tenure.

The New York Times op-ed is available in full here.

Coronation Street spoilers: Is Gary Windass leaving Coronation Street?

ITV soap Coronation Street has been heating up this week as handyman Gary Windass (played by Mikey North) remains a prisoner of evil loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood), who has been growing increasingly violent. Gary was seen covered in injuries as Rick continued to beat him as the builder was tied to a chair. His absence from Weatherfield appears to have gone unnoticed as the Platts are off on holiday and away from Cobbles.

Is Gary Windass leaving Coronation Street?

The short answer is that we just don’t know and with a number of Coronation Street stars reportedly departing the Cobbles, it’s not looking good for Gary.

Gary looks close to death in Coronation Street this week with Rick getting ready to kill him over owed money and stolen passports.

Actor North even teased fans earlier this week, asking them to tune in to find out Gary’s fate.

“Gary’s got himself in a bit of a mess this time, so see how he’s going to get out of this one,” the soap star said in a video posted to the official Coronation Street Twitter account yesterday (Tuesday, May 29).

Meanwhile, star Wood also promised there would be some explosive drama on the soap this week.

Taking to his Twitter account, the actor told his 104,000 followers: “Hello good people, if you can try and catch @itvcorrie next week at the later time of 9pm. When the ‘ship’ goes down… you better be ready!” He then quipped: “Obvs the non radio edit is better [sic].”

However, photos of have emerged from the set of the ITV soap suggesting that Gary will survive another day.

In the images, Gary is seen working with Sharon (Naomi Cooper-Davis) as they appear to be walking around some luxury properties.

The suggestion is that he will be fine and somehow escape Rick’s clutches.

Alternatively, Gary could have struck a new deal with Rick which could see him still doing his dirty work.

But the fate of the loan shark is unknown after he was not seen in the photos.

The troubling storyline has been playing out for some time now with Gary becoming increasingly at the mercy of Rick as he struggles to square off his debts.

Along with the harrowing scenes featuring Gary, there’s been plenty of drama with the Platts during their summer holiday.

Not only has Gail Platt (Helen Worth) chased after ITV host Lorraine Kelly on a pedalo across a lake at a holiday park.

But the meaty stuff will be coming as the week goes on with David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) and Nick Tilsey (Ben Price) revealing the truth about their grandmother Audrey Roberts’ (Sue Nicholls) missing money.

The end of the week will see Coronation Street getting ready dark as Carla Connor (Alison King) suffers a psychosis episode that could put her in danger.

Carla has been really suffering since the Underworld Factory roof collapse and the fallout from that has really led her mental health to suffer.

Coronation Street airs on ITV tonight at 9pm

General Hospital spoilers: Nelle makes another appearance

General Hospital has been busy tying up some loose ends and closing out storylines during May sweeps. One of the biggest reveals with this round of chaos came when Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) revealed that she left Dawn of Day while pregnant to Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin).

He didn’t believe that she lost the baby and now he has nothing left to lose if he digs further into her story. Remember, Willow picked out Brad (Parry Shen) and Lucas (Ryan Carnes) as her son’s birth parents. She knows that is her baby — except it isn’t.

Willow and Shiloh’s son didn’t make it. He died while in Brad’s care, and at the most perfect moment he came across Nelle (Chloe Lanier) who had just given birth to the son she shares with Michael (Chad Duell).

Only a few people in Port Charles know the truth. With Nelle gone in prison, it should have been easy for Brad and Lucas to live happily ever after with their son. That isn’t what is happening and now that the couple knows that Willow is the “birth other” and Shiloh is the father, there is a lot that can happen.

She Knows Soaps reported that Chloe Lanier will be bringing Nelle Benson back the week of June 10. This could be the beginning of the end of the baby swap storyline. The truth will have to be revealed in order for Shiloh to be kept away from Wiley who is really Jonah, the son Michael thought he lost.

A lot will be happening in the next couple of days so be sure to tune in and find out why Nelle is returning!

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.

Can the 'Game of Thrones' Creators Really Make a Good 'Star Wars' Movie?

King’s Landing was back up and functioning in about two minutes of show time after being utterly decimated by dragon fire on the final episode of Game of Thrones, but it’s going to take a lot longer than that for writers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff to rebuild their reputation in the fantasy world.

Lucky for them, they’ve got some time because their next big project—the first part of an unnamed Star Wars trilogy—isn’t set to release for three more years.

With a tentative release date of December 16, 2022, fans angered by the ending of Game of Thrones have some time to mend their wounds before heading to the theater to see what this writing duo does with their next big chance to wow the world.

Can Weiss and Benioff make a good Star Wars movie? Read on to find out.

What we know about the ‘Star Wars’ films

We know that the next Star Wars installment will be another trilogy, and we know the proposed release dates for all three films. After the first hits theaters in 2022, we can expect to see the second in December 2024 and the third in December 2026.

The films are untitled, and the subject matter has not yet been revealed, but the trilogy promises to be a post-Skywalker look at the Star Wars universe. The Skywalker-based plotline is set to wrap up this December.

Another unknown is just how connected Weiss and Benioff are to the new trilogy. Disney CEO Bob Iger chose his words carefully when discussing the writing duo’s involvement with the series. He emphasized that “the next movie release will be theirs. And we’re not saying anything more about that.”

Does this mean that Weiss and Benioff are not working on the second and third films? Perhaps their participation is still to be determined. If so, the disappointing reaction to the Game of Thrones wrap-up might be a warning sign.

Are D.B. Weiss and David Benioff in trouble?

There are several reasons fans should be concerned with Weiss and Benioff taking the reins for the next Star Wars film. For one, fans’ anger about the ending of Game of Thrones has centered largely around the perceived poor handling of main character Daenerys’ development. This criticism about the poor treatment of a powerful female character mirrors criticism the Star Wars franchise has faced itself.

While Lucasfilms is currently run by studio chief Kathleen Kennedy, she has been roundly criticized for not hiring female writers or directors for future films. The fact that the next film will now be written by male writers criticized for their mishandling of female character development is not sitting well with some skeptical fans.

Another warning sign for the duo’s future project is the criticism about their commitment to the story of Game of Thrones. Rumors have been swirling that HBO was committed to up to 10 seasons for their beloved series, but Weiss and Benioff were the ones who wanted to cut it short. Further speculation suggests that it was the allure of their next big project that made them want to wrap things up so quickly. Since Game of Thrones fans are especially angry about the rushed pacing, they’re left to wonder if another season and a few more episodes would have given them a more satisfying conclusion. If so, what does that say about the writers’ commitment to their craft?

Signs D.B. Weiss and David Benioff can pull off the new ‘Star Wars’ film

Not everyone is so critical about their ability to do something amazing with the upcoming Star Wars film, though. It’s a well-known fact that many people who go to work in the Star Wars universe (including George Lucas himself) have been labeled hacks before turning around and producing amazing films for the franchise.

One big difference between Game of Thrones and Star Wars is the tone of the stories. While Star Wars films often center on hope and triumph, Thrones fans knew they were in for a dark and foreboding tale from the very first episode. There was never meant to be a happy ending, and Weiss and Benioff may have been struggling to provide something satisfactory without straying from the show’s established nihilism.

The pair also struggled with pacing because they went from working off of established source material to creating their own ending without the completed books to back them up. While they will be generating new material in order to create the new Star Wars film, they won’t have the uneven situation of starting with the source material and ending without it. They’ll be free to use their own creative license throughout development.

Fans may head into the theater expecting Star Wars to fail because of who is at the helm, but that gives Weiss and Benioff something to prove, and they just might deliver the goods!

Who is Amber Gill? Love Island 2019 contestant's age, job and celebrity pals revealed

AMBER Gill may be one of the brand new batch of Love Islanders but she's certainly no stranger to cast members from previous series.

Before even stepping foot in the villa, the 21-year-old revealed that she's pals with the likes of Love Island alumni Adam Collard and Ellie Brown. How? Well, here's everything you need to know about the Love Island 2019 contestant.

Who is Love Islander Amber Gill?

Amber describes herself as someone with a big personality that gets on really well with others.

"People think I’m funny," the beauty therapist from Newcastle explained. "I don’t take myself too seriously and I’m always up for a laugh.

"I’ll be good on challenges and dates. I’m kind and like to include everyone. I like to make friends with everybody."

That said, the other Islanders shouldn't push their luck as it sounds like she's got a bit of a temper on her too.

"I can be hot-headed," she added. "I’m loud and some people don’t appreciate that. I’m quite opinionated."

Fortunately, she doesn't suffer with low self-esteem and rates herself as a ten out of ten when it comes to looks: "You’ve got to love yourself. What’s the point if you don’t?"

Fair point.

How does Love Islander Amber Gill know Adam Collard and Ellie Brown?

Turns out, all three of them come from Newcastle and have crossed paths a fair few times over the years.

Commenting on her claim to fame, Amber said: "I know a few of the former Islanders from Newcastle, like Adam Collard and Ellie Brown.
"Everyone knows everyone in Newcastle!"

What is Love Islander Amber Gill's type on paper?

Before entering the villa, Amber admitted her celebrity crush is Tom Hardy.

"He’s just nice and he loves dogs as well and I love dogs," she explained. "He takes his dog on the red carpet and I just love that so much."

However, when asked what kind of guy she was looking for in the villa, Amber said that she didn't really have a type as such.

"I like tall guys who are muscly and athletic, I like people that go to the gym because that’s what I like," she added.

"I want someone who is funny and that I can have fun with and doesn’t take themselves too seriously because I am daft.

"Looking at my past relationships, I don’t really have a type, it’s quite broad. If someone catches my eye then I’ll go for them."

Has Amber Gill ever cheated on a boyfriend?

Definitely not — and the Love Islander prides herself on how loyal she is.

Unfortunately though, she has been cheated on during a relationship.

Opening up about her dating history prior to Love Island, she said: "I’ve never cheated. I am not planning on having a wandering eye.

"You’re dating someone and coupling up but if I have to go for someone else then I have to. I’d obviously tell the guy and explain I liked someone else.

"I’ve been cheated on several times. I’m not as naive as I was then, I’ve just learnt to be careful from it.

"Not everyone has your best interests at heart."

When does Love Island 2019 start?

Get ready to say goodbye to your summer as Love Island FINALLY lands on your TV screens.

Series five will kick off on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 9pm.

You’ll be able to get your fix of the show every night on ITV2 where the main show will give us the lowdown on all the goings-on in the villa – from couples cracking on to singletons getting mugged off.

Saturday night's show differs from the rest of the week, as it is a round-up of all the best bits from the villa that week – and maybe some unseen footage!

If that’s not enough, you can also watch Caroline Flack's spin off show Aftersun on Sunday nights at 10pm after the main show has aired where she discusses the latest action with celebrity guest as well as those eliminated from the villa.

Are there any changes for Love Island 2019?

Love Island bosses are plotting some major shakeups for the 2019 show.

They are reportedly scrapping rival villa Casa Amor, which sparked explosive scenes for two years on the show.

Instead, this year ITV2 bosses want to keep new islanders on their toes and they also want viewers to expect the unexpected, which involves creating all-new challenges for contestants.

The Love Island cast are also set to see their pay increase.According to reports to “compensate” for giving up time to be on the show, ITV bosses have agreed to pay the islanders £250 a week.  That's £50 a week more than 2018, who accepted £200 a week to cover their bills, rent and utilities while appearing on the show.

Like 2018, the show is likely to last eight weeks meaning the grand final could be around July 29, 2019.

Who will be this year’s winning couple? Stay tuned!
